While epidemic may sound rather too strong a word to define the place of infertility among the most common causes of sleepless nights and frustration for both young and not-so-young couples nowadays, it is not far-fetched at all. Just take into account the fact that a shocking 17% of couples are unable to conceive naturally, without turning to hassling and sometimes risky medical treatment. Even so, the average man and woman are willing to do whatever a fertility specialist might suggest in order to be able to have their own baby, the ultimate meaning of our life.

The puzzling and much talked about infertility causes range from the toxic chemicals we are daily exposed to and the water quality to the very choice of food that we eat with so much delight. Some of us may not realize that sometimes we are much more responsible for our health flaws than our genetic inheritance is, so making up a wise plan to stick to can solve many of these problems. It can also beat the main causes of infertility.

In spite of the popularity of the procedure in most parts of the world, in vitro fertilization is not the only solution available for those who have tried different other kinds of treatment and still do not have a baby, let alone the cost and risk it implies. By staying alert to the potential influence of the environment and by changing our eating habits and thus avoiding substances that are known to lead to infertility, we can considerably improve our chances to have a healthy child without harming our body with tedious or ineffective treatments.

It is true that we cannot get away from the natural environment we have always lived in and fly to a desert island to conceive and give birth to a child. Thus, we cannot completely avoid the most common environmental causes of infertility (pesticides, formaldehyde, organic solvents, dry-cleaning chemicals, paint fumes, etc.). Yet, we can reduce exposure to such substances by choosing organic food and non-toxic cleaners and, of course, by using a dual water filtration system in both the shower and the kitchen.

Smoking as well as coffee and alcohol consumption should be mentioned among the top infertility causes as they are responsible for reducing fertility by 50%. Fortunately, any of these unhealthy habits can be eliminated once pregnancy establishes and the risk of miscarriage can be highly reduced in this way.

A fresh and organic diet containing vegetable sources of proteins and good fats will highly reduce the causes of infertility in men and women. All trans fats must be completed deleted from your diet while dairy products which account for almost 70% of estrogens consumed must be considerably reduced. Remember milk is one of the causes of infertility in men.
Allergies and food intolerance can also sap your natural ability to conceive, so it is of utmost importance to treat these conditions before it is too late. Sexually transmitted diseases, which sometimes are impossible to detect without a thorough lab analysis, are as common among the infertility causes as endometriosis, tubal obstruction, uterine fibroids or ovarian cysts. A serious check-up will tell you a lot about your potential chances to get pregnant.

However, the treatment that you and your doctor choose is crucial. Typical infertility treatments may not be side effects free and are unlikely to solve your problem for good while Chinese medicine will help you reverse infertility permanently. A holistic approach to the most delicate conditions is always the best answer and the safest way to go. Thanks to a very wisely devised plan which is based on century old Chinese knowledge and uses the safest choice of elements to include in a daily diet, we can now increase the natural ability of our body to fight many of the common infertility causes and incredibly improve our chances to complete the much longed-for family circle.

Warning: infertility drugs may increase the risk of ovarian cancer

Women that use infertility drugs have had concerns for a long time about the risks of ovarian cancer due to the drugs used for their treatments. A recent study has shown little connection associated with drugs used like Clomid and cancer.
Clomid is used to stimulate the ovaries to produce more eggs for conception. During the 1990’s studies were done that showed a connection yet those studies have since been proven incorrect. The recent study showed “no convincing association” between ovarian cancer and the use of fertility drugs.

The patients used for the research were women that had used the drugs at least 16 years prior to the research. Although the study did not find a relative connection, the researchers agree further clinical research and follow-up studies should be done to prove completely the drugs and the cancer are not associated.
In the women studied, the average age for the follow-up was 47 years of age. The peak age for ovarian cancer occurs in the early 60’s. Yet the leading researcher in the study states the results from the study are reassuring the lack of connection of the cancer and the infertility drugs.

Dr. Allan Jensen, the leader of the research stated if there was a connection they would have discovered it during their extended study and the findings show the concerns are unfounded but the research team will continue to monitor the test patients for several years.

The test patients reviewed were over 54,000 women who were treated in fertility clinics between 1963 and 1998. The number of women who were diagnosed with ovarian cancer was only 156 of those women. Upon finding the 156 women who had cancer, further studies were performed on the drugs used for fertility, clomifene citrate both Clomid and Serophene, gonadotropin-releasing hormones, and human chorionic gonadotropin. The results showed no overall increase of cancer risks in relation to the fertility drugs.

While the tests show the infertility drugs were not associated with cancer, it should be stated that women that are infertile naturally have a higher rate of ovarian cancer due to the natural hormones they lack in their system.

And if I stop using tampons now, will I be able to conceive?I've only used tampons for this passed year. Simple question. BUT I NEED HELP.? 3 Sep 2010, 2:39 pm
When you put in your menses, (Period date) do you have to put it everyday until you finish or just the once from when you started?
Resolved Question: Will a doctor/fertility specialist prescribe clomid if your BMI is greater than 30? 3 Sep 2010, 2:50 am
Ive already posted a question with the details of my problem but for background purposes ill give the details again..........Im 22 years old and I haven't had a period for 3 months now, Before then they were always regular, same time every month etc, its really getting me down as my partner and I were hoping to try for a baby. To start with I took around 5 pregnancy tests but all came back negative, I then had a pregnancy blood test done which also came back negative, Ive had various other blood tests done now, progesterone, thyroid, liver function, diabetes, different hormone tests and they have all come back normal, except one which gave a slightly higher reading for testosterone level, this made my doctor think that my problem was PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) however after having a scan around 4 weeks ago now this was ruled out, they did however say that I had one 3cm ovarian cyst on my left ovary and that they couldn't get a clear picture of my right side however all looked normal. At first I though this was the cause however the doctor told me that even if the cyst was causing there to be enough pressure on my left ovary to stop my period the right side should have kicked in as they take it in turns every month. So again I have no answers as to whats happening with my body, I am overweight, I weigh around 16 stone, therefore I thought this could also be the reason but the doctor has told me that im not in this category yet as im not morbidly obese and that the fact I have always been big and my period has always been normal suggests otherwise aswell and I am not under any serious stress. Im due to go for another scan in 2 weeks time to check if the Cyst on my left ovary has shrunk or gone completely and they will hopefully be able to get a clearer picture of my right ovary this time, when I go back to the doctors I am going to ask him to refer me if ive still not got any answers i want but Im not sure whether clomid would be an option for me at the moment as my BMI is higher than 30
